Logical fasting – Dr Chatterjee’s podcast

Another great podcast interview from the ever-helpful Dr Chatterjee in which he reveals the power of ensuring you have a full fast between dinner and breakfast.

12 hours is achievable for most people (dinner at 7pm, breakfast at 7am), and the benefits are astonishing (if the results of the tests on mice are anything to go by). The key learning point is that food any time between dinner and breakfast is bad for anyone, although I’m pretty sure it doesn’t apply to pregnant women.

  • Amazon delivery at 21:30?

After experiencing possibly hundreds of Amazon deliveries in my life, last night was a new one when the guy turned up at 21:30! Back in the day pre-baby that would have been fine, but these days we’re almost asleep by this sort of time because of the wee one.

  • Another amazing rant by Jonathan Pie

It’s all true, and I love the way he puts it across. I just hope enough people listen to him and see sense before the election.

    Cassetteboy is a Legend

Cassetteboy produces some incredible video mashups, and his winning-niche focusses on mocking politicians.

His latest production (out yesterday) echoes my last post about getting Boris out (and voting tactically). See below:

  • Deliveroo’s TV ad was definitely misleading

Deliveroo’s TV ad was definitely misleading

I was amused to see that the latest Deliveroo TV advert was actually banned today, but rightly so. It was incredibly misleading, especially to the average punter.

The TV commercial basically tried to recreate a Deliveroo order where everyone in the house had ordered items from different restaurants. Sure, you can order items from different restaurants, but you would have to put multiple orders through, and you would most probably end up with several different Deliveroo delivery people arriving at different times (a logistical mess). Basically however you look at it, it won’t all end up in one bag like on the advert…

It’s sort of like a TV ad you might see on the Apprentice before being utterly slated by Alan Sugar.

  • Vote Tactically

    Vote Tactically

I hate to say it, but we need to vote tactically in this year’s election so that we can get the nutter Boris out, sort out Brexit correctly, and therefore no longer have to worry about the NHS.

It’s time to throw out your ‘favourite team’ or ‘family tradition’, and vote with your head.

  • How to use Instagram on Desktop / Laptop

How to use Instagram on Desktop / Laptop

I thought it was impossible, but I’ve figured out there’s a very simple way (hack) to use Instagram properly on a desktop/laptop (including uploading photos!)

I’ve only tried it using Chrome browser, but I’m sure it works with most of them.

Basically you have to fool Instagram into thinking you are on a mobile (when you’re not).

    The steps:

    1. Go to instagram.com
    2. Click View, Developer, Inspect Elements
    3. You’ll see a drop-down at the top-left of the live window. Simply select your choice of phone or iPad (whichever fits in your screen nicely).
    4. Click refresh, and hey presto all of the Instagram options magically appear as they do on your mobile.

See below for how I did it:

Obviously the slight let-down is that you have work with a small window, but it allows you to work from your laptop or big desktop screen. Not hunched over your phone.

  • Hack to fix a sheet down to deep bed mattress

It’s quite a specific problem, but if you and/or your partner have a fairly large mattress (especially a very deep one) you might have issues keeping your bed-sheet tucked in. I’ve found this can cause unnecessary stress…

Through a bit of research I found a winning solution / hack which I have now implemented for myself.

Basically you just need to get yourself a pair of mens suspenders / braces (any style will do!) and fit them underneath the mattress. You clip one end to the bed-sheet on one side, and the other end to the sheet on the other side, and you’re sorted. For a bonus tightening you can also use the middle fixture from the suspenders to pull down the top of the sheet.

We use 2 pairs of suspenders now to make everything work well (one at the top of the bed, one at the bottom).

See below for how it works for us:

  • My tip for Black Friday: Mesh WiFi

It’s something I already own, but I can’t recommend it enough, especially due to the ridiculously low price on Amazon.

The TP-Link Deco M5 – the flawless way to make sure wifi is evenly distributed across your flat, house, garden etc. No drop-out zones, and you can also manage who has access to your network.

I’ve used it for about 6 months now and it really has been very solid.
