When Airbnb take a loooong time to review and reimburse damage

After some recent guests damaged a few things around our house, we expected instant payout for the items damaged.

However it would seem there’s some sort of huge delay at Airbnb meaning we’re still waiting over 2 weeks later. The site still says the claim is ‘under review’ – see pic – and there doesn’t seem to be any way to accelerate the procedure…

Any clues / hacks from anyone?

  • The UK government’s £0 support for my business during the pandemic

The UK government’s £0 support for my business during the pandemic

As many of you will have noticed, the government is cheering on employees and sole traders, giving them comfortable financial support in circumstances where they cannot currently be employed.

Unfortunately for some (such as myself) I don’t fall into the above categories as I am a director of a company who relies on dividends rather than salary to be paid. Given that my industry (entertainment) is basically on pause for a very long time from now due to the circumstances, it seems that the government is being more than a little unfair.

A petition has been started as this situation does not just apply to me, but millions of people. Please find the time to sign it as we need some serious help. Thanks for your time 🙂

  • Greater Anglia train ticket cancellation fail

Greater Anglia train ticket cancellation fail

I’ve gone on about how their new trains are nice, but when it comes to after-sales service, and more specifically my attempt to cancel a ticket due to my wife being sick, Greater Anglia‘s policies seem very much like Ryanair.

I had spent £40 on tickets, and would have appreciated getting a refund as she could no longer use them.

Instead I was told each leg-cancellation had a ‘£10 admin fee’. (Erm, what? Is there someone who charges for their time clicking a ‘cancel’ button?) So that was £20 lost. Then the remaining cost of £20 would be refunded, except you have to first drive (petrol) to the train station to print and collect the tickets (that you won’t use), then drive (more petrol) to the post office to send via recorded delivery (£3) to Edinburgh (carbon footprint), where someone would then write a refund cheque and send that back (extra cost and carbon footprint).

I’m sorry not-so-Greater Anglia, but why not just accept the refund request and simply press ‘refund’ on your credit card transaction machine online. Result: much fewer un-needed journeys, wasted carbon, money, and happier customers.

  • Deliveroo’s TV ad was definitely misleading

Deliveroo’s TV ad was definitely misleading

I was amused to see that the latest Deliveroo TV advert was actually banned today, but rightly so. It was incredibly misleading, especially to the average punter.

The TV commercial basically tried to recreate a Deliveroo order where everyone in the house had ordered items from different restaurants. Sure, you can order items from different restaurants, but you would have to put multiple orders through, and you would most probably end up with several different Deliveroo delivery people arriving at different times (a logistical mess). Basically however you look at it, it won’t all end up in one bag like on the advert…

It’s sort of like a TV ad you might see on the Apprentice before being utterly slated by Alan Sugar.
