  • Coronavirus hack: dry your hands

    Coronavirus hack: dry your hands

It’s one of the key things regarding staying clean and helping keep Coronavirus at bay, but it’s something that so many people overlook. You’ve got to actually dry your hands, even if you did wash for 10 minutes with 15 different soaps etc! Wet hands still harbour and transmit bacteria.

He says we must take action to be ready for the next outbreak…

Wow! Most cryptocurrencies are taking a tumble with Coronavirus. It’s a great time to invest!

For those of you who haven’t got any cryptocurrencies in your investment portfolio yet, I would say that right now is looking like a great time to invest! Crazy as it sounds, I’m confident you’ll get a fair amount of growth by just putting a little bit in.

I’ll place my theoretical bet right now:

1 BTC (1 Bitcoin) is currently worth £4706 with Coronavirus uncertainty… My bet is that this value in £GBP will get back up to £6000 in 6 months time giving a minimum of 27% profit to anyone who invests. I will revisit this post in 6 months to check back and see how far off I was…

BTW, I use the Coinbase app to buy/sell crypocurrencies.

  • The ‘Industry Awards’ Scam

    The ‘Industry Awards’ Scam

My business Storm DJs often gets emails/calls from ‘awards’ companies which invite us to ‘industry awards’. From the outset this concept seems nice, and perfectly logical as Storm is an industry leader. However, the reality of these so-called ‘awards’ is nothing but a con. Basically the only way to get an award is to pay a fee.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t paying a fee to be a candidate the same as paying for an award?

I’m fully aware that this type of activity occurs in many industries, and is the most biased and consumer-unfriendly guidance that exists.

I’ve attached a screenshot of a recent email we received with the same business model.

Wikipedia has defined such fake awards as ‘vanity awards’: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanity_award

A useful full article by Jim Dee about the scam is here.

  • A New London Tube Train with Aircon? No, “Air-cooling”.

A New London Tube Train with Aircon? No, “Air-cooling”.

I started to get excited by the new London Tube train design, as I read a report misleadingly saying it had air-conditioning. That’s a big no-no, it’s actually called ‘air-cooling’, so most likely just means there’s a few Dyson fans installed in the train.

But hey, a few more fans circulating the incredibly-polluted hot-tunnel air can’t be that bad can they?…

  • Why do Airbnb guests think it’s useful to make their beds before leaving?

Why do Airbnb guests think it’s useful to make their beds before leaving?

Something I can’t get my head around: why is it that Airbnb guests (well, about 90% of the ones who stay at mine) always make the bed when they leave? Is that what they do in hotels? – I think not!

Perhaps they think that we’re just going to leave the bed (unwashed) for our next guests? Or perhaps they think they’ll receive a better guest rating this way?

If you’re a guest and you want to be useful on check-out, how about actually stripping the sheets/pillow cases so that we can put them straight into the washing machine?

If anyone knows the reasoning behind this illogical human behaviour within Airbnb please get in touch.

  • Tile Mate 2017 – how to replace dead batteries

Tile Mate 2017 – how to replace dead batteries

Tile Mate trackers are a great invention, don’t get me wrong. I’ve used mine constantly, especially as I’m prone to losing my keys/wallet. However, the fact that there is no obvious way to replace the batteries (in the older versions) is plain stupid, and yet another example of companies encouraging unnecessary waste. The products still work, they just need new batteries.

Luckily there’s a great Youtube video which explains how to simply swap out the battery:

Tile did fix the error in their ways as the newer Tile trackers have access panels to replace batteries in a standard way.

  • Does anyone remember the Adidas ABC (UK) Basketball camp from around 1996/1997?

Does anyone remember the Adidas ABC (UK) Basketball camp from around 1996/1997?

It was a fantastic week-long basketball summer camp which I took part in way back when… somewhere in the Midlands… but all I remember was some ‘guest coaching’ by Kobe Bryant‘s dad. Would love to hear other people’s memories of this and see any photos that exist.

My online research has only brought me to the US-based ABCD camps (not sure what the lack of a D implied in my one). But these are not the same thing. I’m convinced there must be something hidden online somewhere, but I’m yet to find it. Any clues?

My only t-shirt which I still have from back then is in the photo.

  • Should all beach resort’s seafront roads be pedestrianised?

Should all beach resort’s seafront roads be pedestrianised?

Can you imagine a place like Brighton with full-pedestrianisation along the seafront instead of an awful car-focussed dual-carriageway? I always ask myself this question at every seafront town/city I visit. I think it would be an absolutely wonderful breath of fresh air!

Mental-health impact: the effect any city-focus being on traffic rather than pedestrians infers serious stress levels. Brighton already has a large pedestrian pathway along the seafront, and it works well, but it is still alongside a busy road. but let’s move this idea further and get rid of cars completely along the seafront.

Respiratory health impact: Sure every beach-front is next to the sea already, but fewer cars next to large agglomerations of people means cleaner air to breathe. Obviously the cars will exist somewhere else, and the environmental impact would be negligible, but moving them away will be healthier for the public.

I’m fully aware that beachfront businesses still need to operate and have delivery/road access, but I’m sure this could be tackled sensibly. It has been proven than more people on foot is better for business in any case. Perhaps a good start/tester would be weekend pedestrianisation, as practiced on Kiev’s main street.

This concept presents a huge opportunity for all seafront towns/cities, especially those locations with less public appeal.

In the meantime, watch this great talk on street design (and pedestrianisation of Time Square) in New York by Janette Sadik-Khan:

  • Memories: Graduation from Nottingham University 2002

Memories: Graduation from Nottingham University 2002

Here’s my ‘class photo’ from my graduation at Nottingham University Business School way back in 2002! Unfortunately most of my close uni friends graduated in 2001 as I had an Erasmus year in France (which extended my course to 4 years).

What can I remember from that day? Not much.

What do I remember from the majority of my uni courses? Not much either, but I like to think the entire university experience helped me develop as a person.

Shout if you can spot me, or if you recognise anyone else…
